Children, Families, and the Sea Dennis clothing_footwear punished for speaking their nativeThis is the story of thirteen year old Dennis Johnson, his family and friends, and a few days in his life during a rainy summer on Gilford Island, British Columbia. Dennis is a Kwakiutl Indian a member of an Indian nation that lives along the narrow, forested coast of the Canadian Pacific Northwest. The Kwakiutl are people of the sea. Fish and other food from the sea make up a large part of their diet and provide them with income. At this writing,
